can you say OCD?
Hours ago I found a "should I read this book?" request from a Shelfari member, and logged in to answer. While there I notice I only had listed 17 books (as books I'd read). Off to the races. I now have 372 books listed, and each one reminds me of half a dozen others I can add.
Time to do something else for a while.
OH YEAH: while we were out, I stopped in AC Moore --at th'Mr's suggestion (no, really! He said, "weren't you saying, on your blog (what, he reads my blog??), that you need a new circular needle, because you don't like the one you are using?") is he a good'un or what-- (did I just nest a couple pair of parentheses? How cool) ...and though I didn't find a #4 clover in a long circ, I did meet a Ravelry member (!) and at her suggestion bought a couple colors of a sock yarn I hadn't tried before.
Pix another time. My tail is sore from sitting at this desk cataloging my shelfari for so long. Go read that while you wait for me to come back.

while in Fla...
There's a yarn store I'd been to before that I wanted to visit again. To that effect th'Mr & I wandered around a couple of times... Sunday night at 6PM I finally asked directions googled it. We'd been within one block of it, half an hour before it closed! Open Sunday till 5PM! Closed Monday, ~sniff~ reopen Tuesday at 10AM, our flight leaves Tuesday at 1PM. So Monday I popped into a JoAnn Fabric I'd noticed (whatta JoAnn, btw; twas HUGE) and bought seven balls of nice yarn, (some blue and some purple Jo-Ann Sensations Bellezza Collection Dolcetto Yarn) reduced from $6.99 to a dollar each.
Also bought an afghan sampler booklet (nine bux), and that evening started an afghan square.
The next morning while packing I realized there wasn't enough room for seven balls of yarn ~sigh~

projects update
Remember my co-worker, the one with the premature baby? Wednesday, with obvious relief, he said he'd taken "a DNA test" and the baby isn't his. He's positively ecstatic. "I've been wanting to get away from her for a while, but with the baby I was afraid I was gonna have to marry her."
So I'm left with a completed hat & booties, and no-one to give them to. Oh well, someone will turn up. When they do I'll weave in the ends and add a bit of ribbon or I-cord, and have a quick gift.
I'm a little further on my 2nd Henley T-shirt. Already thinking about the next one, maybe incorporating some cables or other pattern into it and working in a solid color. This one is an experiment in stripes. I've got a theory that by varying the width of the stripes just slightly (dropping from 19 rows to 15, forex), I can control how "hourglassy" the wearer (in this case me)'s figure looks.
Began a trellis in the pink marl Bernat I bought last Thursday. Not far enough you can see what it is, but it's such a small pattern it should knit up quickly. I was such a novice knitter when I made my first trellis. Not that I'm any great expert now ...but there's been improvement.
I really dislike this kneedle, btw. It's one of the first circs I ever bought, a cheap metal 16" #4. It's too slippery and at the same time the tips are all wrong: too much taper and not a sharp enough point. I know I have another #4 circ somewhere, if not more than one, but I can't lay my hands on it.

Started the final SKP2008, the Olympic Medal socks. I got as far as the heel of the first sock and stalled. It's not a pattern one can knit while watching a movie; it takes a bit of concentration.
Henley, and the unnamed shopping bag (to be felted), are my movie knits.

yarn habit
T'other day after work I stopped in Michael's (the the big box craft store) because I had to be in the neighborhood anyway. Th'Mr had bought a microscope while we were in Lexington the previous weekend, and I was returning it. The two young sales clerks at Toys'R'Us giggled at my explanation for the return: "It's, uh... more like a pretend microscope than a real one."
So that brought me into the vicinity of Michael's, JoAnn Fabric, and AC Moore. Oh boy.
First I browsed through JoAnn, but didn't find anything I had to have. What yarn was on sale was mostly novelty (eyelash, goofy-bumpy, etc), and though I halfheartedly looked through the button selection for three buttons for my 2nd Henley, nothing turned me on.
Next, to Michael's, where I accidentally touched a baby-soft acrylic (Acrylic?! I don't buy no steenkin' acrylic!), went "Ooooh" and bought two colors of it. 'Twas cheap, and it is one of the softest yarns I've ever touched. Besides, babies need something washable. Basta.
Got a clicker row counter too.
Having thus fed my habit I skipped AC Moore and headed home.

election eve eve eve morning
Love these three-day weekends. Yesterday th'Mr & I were gone on errands most of the day, but that still leaves a full weekend at home.
The the final leg of the 2008 Sock Knitters' Pentathlon was announced a day early (Oct 31), and I've got the cuff and one pattern repeat of the first sock done. Worked on the alpaca Henley a little bit, and this morning knit a preemie cap (boots to follow) for a co-worker whose girlfriend had their baby six weeks early. The little boy weighs less than five pounds. I can't imagine! Each of our cats is double that, or nearly so.
Man. That's tiny.
Trying out the new browser from Google, Chrome. < < that's a link to the download page. I still need to do some tweaking but so far I like it. th'Mr is especially impressed with its speed compared to Firefox.
Klutz still has an ear infection. In addition to the ear drops from the Drrr, I'm feeding her yogurt... which she likes when tuna's mixed in with it.
In other cat news, we're trying out Science Diet cans. Compared to what we had been using (9Lives), SciDi has the juice permeating all the food in the can, instead of one dry lump sitting in a puddle of juice. Everyone likes the SciDi, even Shorty and Roadie. It's a little pricey, but worth it. Read about nutrition in pet food and why you should check the label here.

The color combination has done the opposite of growing on me --what would you call that?-- BUT... this pattern enabled my fingers to teach me how to hold two strands of yarn at once. I'll be eternally grateful.

Days fly by. Today is Wednesday, tomorrow is payday, yesterday the payweek ended. I have 101 payhours coming. 10 Wed, Thu, Fri, 12.5 Sat & 12.5 Sun, 12 Mon & Tue.

The froggy deed is done...
...the new sock is (barely) begun. I worked 12 hours yesterday and 12 today, so I oughta get some sleep soon, but I suspect I'm gonna try to finish the toe before crashing.
