thoughts while meditating

This morning Ron D. came by to spend an hour with Bob. In Bob's own words, "Ron's always good company." While he was here I busied myself putting a few finishing touches on the housecleaning I'm always in the middle of, sorted the recycling, folded a load of laundry, took out the compost & checked on the garden, then laid down on my bed, closed my eyes, slowed my breathing and slowly counted to 300 while trying not to think about anything in particular. That was a lovely five minutes! The whole while I heard Ron & Bob talking in the next room, and whenever that came to the surface of my attention I let it make me smile. Try it sometime: lie down, relax, and let smiling be the most strenuous thing you do for five minutes.
