I found a couple of yarn shops near my parents' house and dropped probably more money than I should have on several balls & hanks of sock yarn. The first store, Yarn Tree in Hollywood, yielded a hank of Cherry Tree Hill and one of handpainted Jitterbug, in Blue Parrot colorway. At the second, Tropical Yarns in Miramar, I bought a big ball of yellow Opal and two small ones of corally-red Regia silk, plus a set of #4 dpns. Then, when we got home, my order from DiscontinuedYarn.com was here, four balls of Sockotta, two in spotted fawn and two winter wheat!
At the moment I'm working on a sock with the second ball of what I began the crusoe's with... the near-finished crusoe is destined for frogging :( The sock --another thing I'm going to have to look up is the name of the pattern (here it is, in the sidebar, "Rob's twined rib socks": http://fluffyknitterdeb.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html)-- has a pretty criss-cross pattern that's a lot of fun to work up.
