The starlings are still digging into the diet catfood, but from my window I see they're also pecking around the compost pile. Can't imagine what they find there; I think lately it's been all coffee grounds and smoothie detrius: banana & citrus peels, strawberry stems, peach pits.
Roadie, our youngest cat at 3 1/2, is slowly coming out of his feral summer state and turning into a housecat --though he still freaks if I make eye contact-- and is at the moment lying atop my monitor, watching the starlings, tailtip in tense, controlled motion.
To my left Shorty is asleep on my desk, her head on the pile of catalogs, birthday cards and bills; Sapphire is on the windowsill above Shorty, looking out another window.
Shorty will be 9 years old April 1st, Sapphire will be 9 in May. They are the two oldest.
